The Thing

The thing about graduating is you’re just itching to do stuff that you would no longer get to do once you get out of school so I’m celebrating this paper writing/review session in Burger King Calamba with a post.

I’ve neglected this blog enough (and was actually talking to Pish about it yesterday) and if I ignore it more, I’m scared that it might strangle me in my sleep. Another thing is, when I’m reading other people’s blogs, it makes me think, “I have thoughts too. And oh, I have a blog.”

Another thing with graduating is the load of academic load triples as well as responsibilities and other boring stuff. I was so caught up in studying and meeting requirements to the point that it made me sick, literally. This week was a haze and I had this in my desktop:

My roommate had to remind me that it was already October (desktop wallpaper from definatalie.com check her out. She’s great.) Even if the past week was crazy, friends helped me out with work (Christer and Pish did some layouting for me) and I found rest in the weekends.

Christer and I had a couple of projects together which made me realize that maybe, I should marry a graphic designer. We made this shirt for PSY 101:

In short, I was productive, productive, productive. Two more crunch/faith stretching weeks to go and I’m off to Sembreak Land. YEY!

Things I Learned while Syncing Photos in my iPod

Papa went home from Australia last Saturday and brought home stuff–the usual chocolates and purfumes. He also brought me an iPod (Sydne too). I remember telling him that I wanted a koala and an iPod from Australia. I was joking because I wanted neither of them so I was surprised when he told me that he bought me an iPod. I realized that having an iPod is time consuming especially for someone like me that wants everything organized, etc. In fact, I spent last night putting songs and album art into my new gadget.

This afternoon, I started putting photos into it. I browsed my photo library and saw so many pictures from the past few years. And then it hit me. I realized that before all this–before college, before stress, before confusion, before spending so much time doing things I don’t want to do–or even before good things like SV–I had a life. I was once in high school: I attended prom, wore a uniform, did silly things with friends. I was once part of the student publication: I used to stay up late and went to places, I was once a believer of things, whatever they are. I was once addicted to photography: I had that flare for “art” shots (art was whatever I think it was). I was once young, careless/carefree. I once lived in an apartment with nine girls and a cat. I once had friends who are now (physical and emotional) miles away.

This made me cry. Life is and was wonderful. I almost forgot that. All I do right now is channel all my energies to get things done. Sometimes, it is worth all the nostalgia to look back and see how far you’ve come. The journey is something worth watching. The journey is a testament on how faithful the Lord is in my life. He was faithful then and He is faithful now.

Life is also surprising. It got me in a very odd moment. A new iPod and a lot of nostalgia (and a rainy afternoon).

Coffee People

Last month, I was spending a lot of time with people in coffee shops. One thing that astounds me about LB is the number of coffee shops we have here. If you count from Junction to UP Gate, there maybe 15 shops more or less. Of course not all shops serve good coffee but there are some that stand-out.

On Wednesdays Pish, David, and I have a long break in the middle of he day so one Wednesday we went to Cafe Antonio and played Scrabble. David won. Cafe Antonio serves good coffee and non-coffee drinks. They also have a lot of books and board games which makes it so much fun. They also have really good music. For me, they win the Music Category in all the cafes in LB.

Chara, Hannah, and I spent after dinner time at Boston Cafe so that we can update each other about our lives. We spent half of the time taking pictures, reading a wedding magazine and Chara teaching us to put make-up.

I learned my lesson. If I don’t blog seemingly exciting things at moments when they seem so exciting, the excitement diminishes. Thus, this post.

A bunch of finally(s)

1. Finally, I had my dose of KFC’s Famous Bowl (I had been craving for it since KFC is renovating) from a branch in Alabang before riding a bus to LB.

2. Finally, KFC UPLB re-opened (and they have lollipop chairs now).

3. Finally, SVs came together for Team Building. Twas super fun!

4. Finally, Papa went to Australia for conference and vacation.

5. Finally, my new phone arrived.

6. And finally, I was able to cut my hair short after a long time.

This things felt like it happened a long time ago. Oh, I missed blogging.

I went to the movies

July and August: movie months.

Ica and I went to CCP for Cinemalaya 2010. Twas so much fun considering the fact that it was our second time there. We watched Vox Populi and The Leaving because the movies that we wanted to see (Sigwa and Three Funerals) were sold out.

Vox Populi was good. It presented too familiar political images in the Philippines in a fresh way. I like the way the director, Marasigan, gave a glimpse of Filipino politics in a different angle, using a different voice. The movie was about a female character running for mayor and how her last day of campaigning went. The movie felt so familiar because last elections, being a part of Los Banos Times meant being involved on local politics and I saw how dirty local politics can be (talk about vote buying and ghost candidates).

That’s me and Ica after watching Vox Populi. While we waited for the next screening, we went around CCP and went to a pottery exhibit. We saw a lot of stones. I didn’t expect to see a lot of LB people in Cinemalaya but I did. I guess LB’s opening up to the world. The second movie, The Leaving has Alwyn Uytingco’s beautiful face all over it. Enough said.

Later that month, I went with Issa to watch Inception. I love Inception for two reasons: 1) It has Joseph Gordon Levitt on it and 2) It’s a really good movie. If you know me enough, you would have an idea on how much I love science fiction and Inception is a very good science fiction movie. It’s like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind minus the drama. After the watching, I had weird dreams–that’s how effective the movie was.

August started with me escaping LB in the middle of the school week with Ate Chan, Lulu and Dane to go to Alabang Town Center to watch Salt. I’m not really all hyped up in seeing this movie and I don’t really like Angelina Jolie but I like being away from school and driving to Bayan via Jamboree. The movie was ok the usual CIA movie but I just have to say that Angelina Jolie can’t be a CIA agent. She’s too gorgeous/too beautiful/too extraordinary looking to be one. Dinner was great and jut being away from all the studying even for a few hours felt good.

Next week: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, wait for me and Ica. Michael Cera, marry me.

Out of sheer laziness (and oh, being almost eaten by school work alive)

I haven’t posted anything for eons now. I was lazy and school was drowning me with tons of things to do. I have one motivation: All of this will be over after the next semester. I was hanging out in the library, read some Martin Amis, availed my free Internet access and read the Sweet Juniper blog when I realized that I have to blog. I want to remember how crazy college is and what kept me busy at these days. I have a semester and a half to go. College will soon become a mermory and I know that I’m not an expert in keeping them alive.

Ok. I’m at Mon’s place trying to work out the presentation they need for the meeting tomorrow. The last few weeks is crazy. CRAZY. I had too much to do, too little time. Senior year will be over in one, two, three…eight months–240 days that’s 5,760 hours left .

Last week I cut my hair short (the hair I was growing long to look good for my grad pic) because for a brief moment, I thought I wasn’t going to graduate. I WILL GRADUATE. No matter what.

(This is the first of my College Reflections posts. Let’s see how far this will go.)

If being tired at ten in the morning is normal to you, then I’m guessing your a college student. It’s three in the afternoon and I had two choices on how to spend this one hour break; either: go to my org’s tambayan and chitchat with people or head to library and enjoy my free Internet access. I chose the latter.

So here I am, reading Jessica Zafra’s blog wondering if I will be able to survive listening in my last two classes without falling asleep.

I have this theory. I can die after college. Or to put it mildly, I think my life will stop after college. I think, everything that I have experienced in the last three years and a half would take forever for me to reflect to. Time will need to stop after graduation. I need to understand everything that happened to me before I can work or settle down or have children. I need some stop time. Press pause. But as for today, I am still living the college life–constantly tired and sleepy.

I wonder if the rest of my life would be like this.
